Mirtazapine Oral – Successfully Relieving Symptoms of Depression

There are numerous medications that have proven to be effective in treating depression and each one has its own unique way of working to reduce or relieve the symptoms of depression. There are four main classifications of antidepressants including SSRI’s or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, Tricyclic Antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors also known as MAOI’s and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors or SNRI’s Of these four common classes of antidepressants there are still other medications that may be prescribed for their ability to alleviate and reduce the symptoms of depression that do not fall into any of these categories. One such medication is Mirtazapine also known as Remeron. Mirtazapine is classified as a tetracyclic antidepressant and works to raise the levels of noradrenaline and serotonin which are two chemicals found in the brain.

It is often used to treat depression when other symptoms such as anxiety and sleeplessness are factors also. Although mirtazapine has proven to be effective in treating these symptoms there are side effects that accompany its use as well such as lightheadedness, weight gain, dry mouth, increased appetite and constipation. It is important to notify a health care professional if any of these effects linger or get worse.
