Common Treatment Options for Individuals with Manic Disorder

When a person experiences symptoms of manic disorder or bipolar, they may have feelings of creativity, energy, or euphoria. A person having a manic episode will often begin to talk rapidly, lose sleep, and they may be hyperactive. Most people tend to have feelings that they are invincible, powerful, or even destined for greatness.

Manic disorder may make a person feel great in the beginning, and then all of a sudden the person begins to become out of control. A person experiencing a manic episode tends to behave recklessly by gambling away their savings or even making foolish investments, while others become very irritable, angry, aggressive, and they often try to lash out or pick a fight with friends and family members. Some suffering from this disorder may also hear voices or become very delusional.

Medications and therapy is generally the appropriate and common treatment options for a person that is dealing with manic disorder; however, there are other things that you can do as well and would include the following:

  • Avoiding stressful situations.
  • Joining support groups.
  • Making healthy choices including foods, exercises, and sleeping habits.
  • Keeping track of your mood swings and consulting with your physician
