There is approximately one in 250 individuals that suffer from the symptoms that are associated with psychotic depression, which is a very serious form of depression. There are a variety of different treatment methods that are involved with this type of disorder, and the treatment options that may work very well for one individual may not necessarily work as well for the next patient. When individuals need to be hospitalized for this condition, a longer stay is generally required than what is needed with some of the other types of depression. The follow-up care that is given for this mental health condition is also more intense. Generally patients with psychotic depression will need to take a combination of prescription medications that may include various types of anti-psychotic drugs along with the use of antidepressants.
