Facts That Dispel Some of the Myths about Depression (Part 1)

Unfortunately, just like several medical illnesses, there have been numerous myths spread around for years about the mental health condition known as depression. Below you will find many different facts concerning depression that dispel several of the most commonly heard myths.

  • Depression is not a condition that an individual can simply just will away. There are many forms of depression that occur because of chemical imbalances within the body that people do not have any control over. There are also other reasons that many people suffer from this condition that are completely out of their control.
  • Various forms of depression are medical conditions that are often caused by imbalances of substances known as stress hormones located within the human brain. Research on this condition has also showed a decreased activity in certain areas of a patient’s brain when they are suffering the symptoms of this condition.
  • Depression is a condition that is far more serious than when a person simply has the blues. The blues rarely lasts for than a day or two; however, depression is a mental health condition that can last for several months, several years, or even for the individual’s entire life.
