Fluoxetine – Commonly Prescribed to Patients Suffering From Depression

Fluoxetine is a well known SSRI antidepressant that is commonly prescribed to patients that are suffering from the side effects that are most commonly experienced with mental health conditions such as depression. This is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is also effective in treating a variety of other disorders that would include premenstrual dysphoric disorder,

bulimia, which is an eating disorder, OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder, and panic attacks. Medications such as Fluoxetine are very effective at reducing the amount and the severity that depression symptoms are experienced. The way this medication works is it causes a restoration in the balance of neurotransmitters, which are natural substances like serotonin that are located in the brain.

This is a benefit that improves the patient’s appetite, their level of energy, their sleeping patterns, their mood, and their overall well-being. It also has the ability to reduce symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder that includes unwanted urges and persistent thoughts to perform various actions repeatedly. Other medical conditions that this drug is often prescribed for would include narcolepsy, catalepsy, and anorexia nervosa. Some common side effects that individuals may experience would include yawning, nausea, increased sweating, drowsiness, tiredness, dizziness, weakness, and problems sleeping.
