What Does Depression from Physical Disease Mean?

Known as one of the most common forms of depression, is the type of this illness that an individual suffers due to some type of serious physical illness or disease, generally those that are suffered over a long period of time. There is a wide variety of disease’s and illnesses that can be associated with depression that is caused from physical ailments.

Just a few of these would include Parkinson’s disease, Cushing’s syndrome, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, Degenerative Disc Disease, long-term injuries, diabetes, and many others. There are also some sicknesses that can cause the symptoms of depression even after the individual gets over the illness and these would include the flu and mononucleosis. Another health condition that often results in individuals who suffer from depression due to health conditions can be caused by what is known as hypothyroidism. With this condition

the individual lacks thyroid hormones that are so important for the body to perform necessary functions of the body. Hypothyroidism can cause a decrease in the amount of neurotransmitters found in the brain, and it can cause a decrease in the person’s metabolism, which results in a slowing down of the entire body, resulting in depression.
