What Does Psychotic Depression Mean?

Psychotic depression is the form of depression that is widely known as being the most serious and severe form. Individuals that suffer from the symptoms that are associated with this type of depression will generally experience hallucinations. The individual will also have bouts where they may get delusional, and on many occasions they will often hear voices as well.

Although these types of symptoms are also common occurrences in an individual that is suffering from the condition of schizophrenia, an individual that has psychotic depression does realize that the voices and the hallucinations that they are having are not real, whereas patients with schizophrenia do not. Just because they are aware of the fact that the delusions and voices that they hear may not be real, this does not mean that they will act rationally to these hallucinations.

It also does not mean that the individual experiencing these symptoms is not capable of harming either themselves or other individuals that may be around them during these types of episodes. This type of disorder is one that will need to be treated as soon as possible by qualified physicians that have skill and expertise in the field of mental health.
