Side Effects Associated with Tofranil

Tofranil usually causes side effects in the patients for some initial days, even though these may vary depending upon the patient. Heart blocks, changing heart rhythms, ECG variations, myocardial infarction (commonly called heart attack), and heart failures, orthostatic hypotension often combined with vertigo, syncope and even stroke are some of the common cardiovascular adverse effects reported because of Tofranil.
Some of the autonomic side effects associated with Tofranil intake vary from dry mouth, constipation, glaucoma, blurred vision, delayed urinations, retention of the urine , etc. In addition, apart from the side effects, an overdose of Tofranil may prove to be even fatal, often leading to dangerous situations like stupor, delirium ,etc, with children being more sensitive. Furthermore, less severe adverse effects  include skin rashes, vomiting and nausea, bitter taste, weight gain, excessive production of saliva, sleeplessness, anorexia, black tongue, anxiety, dizziness, mania, delusional tendencies, and confusion particularly in the aged patients.

Moreover, adverse effects resulting from Tofranil also include feelings of weakness, loss of muscle co-ordination, aggressiveness, frequent decreases in libido, swelling of the tesicles, obstructive jaundice, ADH (inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone) secretion syndrome, edema, allergic pneumonia, hypertension, purpura, a decrease in the level of sugar in the blood, etc.
