Side Effects Associated with Trazodone

Trazodone also has many types of side effects associated to it. Some of the most commonly encountered side effects are the typical drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness etc. Dry mouth is also a very common adverse reaction, which has the risk of causing dental problems, because of which patients suffering from this side effect are suggested to keep ice, or gums in their mouths, and consult a doctor if this condition persists for more than a fortnight. Apart from this, many other adverse effects have been observed.
Chest pain, hallucinations, blood in urine, prolonged and difficult erections and breathing difficulties have been observed in patients. Many studies have noticed other side effects, like hypomania, akathisia, seizures and attacks, dystonia, migraine, flatulence and numbness are also seen. Parasthesia, weakness, vertigo and impaired speech are some of the neurological adverse effects caused by Trazodone.

A common and disturbing concern with Trazodone is the side effect called priapism, which is a rare but very serious condition in which the erect penis does not become flaccid for a certain unusual period of time. Hypotensions, heart attacks, atrial fibrillation, syncope, jaundice, enlarging of the breasts, urinary retention, psychosis, hemolytic anemia, ventricular entropic activity, etc are some of the serious adverse effects of Trazodone.
