How to Take Trazodone

Trazodone must be taken after informing the doctor about any other medicines that the patient might be taking, or any health conditions like heart attacks, diseases affecting the kidney or liver, bipolar diseases or if the patient has been suffering from suicidal tendencies. Trazodone should not be taken with alcohol or CNS depressants.
In typical cases, Trazodone is recommended in small doses during the initial days, and the amount of the dose is gradually increased. Trazodone might take up to 4 weeks or even sometimes more to show effect, so the patient should not cease taking the medications. On the other hand, an overdose of Trazodone might result into attacks, seizures, varying pulses, fainting and can also be fatal. It should be importantly noted that there is no antidote for the overdose-effect of the drug, and the patient must be immediately taken to the hospital.

Trazodone is strongly recommended to be taken with food, since it enhances, though also delays, the absorption by 20 per cent. Usually, a dosage of 150 mg per day is started, which gradually increments by 50 mg per day after a few days. However, it should not exceed 400 mg for moderate patients and 600 mg for patients who are severely afflicted with depressive illness.
